Full and part-time Northern Illinois University students can get some of the latest Microsoft® software at a substantial savings. Through a special program, we’re able to purchase Microsoft software at volume discounts and pass on the savings to our students. Software products do include the license and CDs. Software products do not include support or documentation. Standard Microsoft product use and licensing restrictions are applicable.

You must show your student ID and supply your name and Z-ID when purchasing software. Your Z-ID will be checked against current enrollment lists to ensure that you are enrolled. The following license agreements must be signed when you purchase the software:

Q. Can I keep the software after I graduate or leave NIU?
A.Subject to the license conditions stated in the agreements (such as not decompiling, etc.), the software license is permanently assigned to a currently enrolled student. After the purchase, the software license continues to reside with the student even if the student leaves NIU or graduates.
Q. What does "licensed not sold" mean?
A. Usually, software is licensed, not sold, meaning that you have to follow the terms of the end user license agreement which tells you how you may use the software. Software sold by retailers also requires that you follow the terms of licensing agreement. The terms of the agreement that each student must sign under this program are fairly typical with the exception that they acknowledge that phone support and documentation are not included. Q. How many copies of each application and version can I purchase?
A. Each student can purchase one copy of each licensed product the the Select License Program. For example, if student Alpha purchases Microsoft Office 2003, student Alpha will not be allowed to purchase Microsoft Office 2003 again, but student Alpha will be allowed to purchase Microsoft Office Mac. If Microsoft releases a new version of Microsoft Office, student Alpha will be able to purchase the new version of the product through the program.
