Core FTP Lite
Core FTP Lite is a free FTP client for educational use. Use it to manage your files remotely and securely via FTP with SFTP and SSL.
Downloading
Download Core FTP Lite by going to Core FTP download options and download the latest version of Core FTP LE to your Desktop.
Installation
- Exit all applications including your web browser.
- Open the Core FTP Lite installation file on your Desktop by double-clicking it. Follow the installation wizard prompts.
Setting up your profile
Start Core FTP Lite. You will see the Site Manager window. The following steps will complete a profile to connect to your NIU NetWare user volume:
- Site Name: NIU
- Host/IP/URL: ftp.niu.edu
- Username: your username with the full context, starting with a period. For example, .bn9jxd1.acs.cts.dk.edu or .z123456.6.students.niu. Please note that the student full context repeats the last number before .students.niu.
Find your full context by going to logonid.niu.edu and clicking on Look up your LogonID. Enter your LogonID or your last name and click Next. You'll see your LogonID with its full context.
- Password: your Novell password
- Port: 21
- Timeout: 60
- Retries: 2
- PASV: check; do not check SSH/SFTP or Use Proxy
- Under SSL Options: check AUTH TLS, SSL Listings and SSL Transfers
- OpenSSL: check; do not check Windows SSL

Click the Connect button. Accept the security certificate.

The main window for Core FTP Lite should open with your connection:

On the left are files on your computer and on the right are the network drive(s) available to you. Help is at the top of the screen at the button with a question mark on it. It has instructions for uploading, downloading and more.
