Product Overview:

ITS Enterprise System Support provides this software free of charge for installation on NIU-tagged Computers. Contact the ITS Helpdesk for information regarding NIU employee home-use and installation on non-NIU computers.

VirusScan Enterprise provides comprehensive protection from viruses, worms, Trojans and other malicious code affecting desktops and fileservers for NIU owned PCs. VirusScan for home use is available to NIU Staff while they are employed by NIU and while NIU maintains the licenses for home use. This includes McAfee.com Clinic and VirusScan Macintosh users should use McAfee Virex.

Virus detection and removal software for Macintosh computers. McAfee® Virex shields users from all downloaded viruses with its Universal Scan-At-Download feature. Virex scans Zip archives, files compressed by StuffIt Deluxe and Compact Pro, email attachments, and more. PC users should obtain McAfee VirusScan.

    Notice – this virus scanning software distribution is pre-configured to update the definition files (DAT files) on a daily basis from the McAfee server. It is also configured with the Alert Manager component that, when a virus is detected, notifies ITS Security with the following information: file name, file location, virus name, scan engine version, definition file version, IP address of machine that the scan occurred on, user name of the user logged on to the machine, machine name, and virus scan software version. This alerting and notification process is automatic and necessary in order to provide ITS with the information that it needs to locate the source of computer viruses and to protect the NIU computer network. For an alternative virus scanning software distribution, please request the home user version of the virus scanning client from Document Services Software Distribution.
    NOTE: v8.7 Win is not yet available.

    Microsoft Internet Explorer v 5.5or higher must be installed. You must remove existing anti-virus packages from your PC before installing current version of VirusScan. This includes McAfee.com Clinic and VirusScan.
    This home user version is not available for NIU owned equipment.
